Spherical plain bearings are complete bearing units that can accommodate tilting, rotational and oscillatory movement.
The normal steel-on-steel configuration consists of an inner and outer ring having spherical contact surfaces of hardened and ground steel treated with black oxide. This surface treatment provides optimum operating properties under severe conditions and permits operation in many applications.
These bearings are particularly suitable for applications where heavy loads, alternating in direction, must be transmitted at low speeds.
Spherical plain bearings are also available with the outer ring lined with sintered bronze or with PTFE lining for maintenance free operation. These are used in areas where lubrication cannot be performed.
